FAVORITE MOVIES: Life is Beautiful, Hope Floats, The Man from Snowy River, Into the West, and anything Mel Brooks, or Monty Python is usually fun, and worth another viewing.. Last trip to the movies was for I am Legend, (my sons pick) It was well done, but a bit too intense for me. I saw August Rush on the trip before and had to buy the soundtrack ;D
FAVORITE MUSIC: Almost anything that isn't angry, from Worship to Rock, Show Tunes to Alternative, Country, Folk, Pop, even a little Polka. I like to sing along.

GENDER OF HORSE: Mare

HORSE NAME: Symphony Solstice, Valentie Gesture, Dynamotion, Windsome Rose,

HISTORY OF YOUR HORSE: Symphony Solstice ~ 2000 Bay mare

She was born wild and captured by BLM in Twin Peaks HMA, July 2001.

I met her at an adoption June 2002. While I am often complemented on the beauty of my mare, I didn't pick her out, she chose me.
I was in awe of this wild beast who looked at me between the legs of the other horses in the pen and then slowly made her way towards me. She cautiously sniffed one finger before allowing me to tickle her with it. Soon she was letting me scratch her cheeks and followed me along the fence. I left her there but was haunted by dreams of what this curious, bold, brave wild filly could become and returned the next day to adopt her. I love her more then I could ever put into words. She is everything I imagined she would be and more... and she LOVES me ;D

Valentine Gesture ~ 2003 Black gelding

We attended an adoption on a drizzly feb morning in 2005. We were hoping to adopt a horse who fell into the newly passed 3 strike fiasco. I was looking for a filly or mare my daughter however spotted a scruffy looking long yearling (who wasn't very long) His hair was faded, dull, and damp. I was emphatic that we were not bringing home a stud colt, yet every time we walked passed there would be girls, young girls, hanging on the fence petting him.

At the end of the day he was still there unadopted. My daughter had found out that he had spent 14 months of his not much longer life with BLM and was convinced he was in peril given the soon to be enforced 3 strike rule. SHe ended up crying and a passing volunteer who stopped to find out if she was OK was ever so happy to tell us that every horse in his pen was already gelded removing my only argument against him! I don't think I've ever seen that child move so fast. She had our name on the board and papers for me to fill out and Chester was the last horse adopted that day.

He is bold, headstrong, playful and ever so smart! He's not hard on the eyes either. Beth gave him to her dad who passed away last year and so he his hers again. Her dad wanted him to be a police mount so that may be in his future IF we can bear to let him leave us.

Dynamotion ~ 2006 Bay filly from Yakama Indian Reservation

Dyna was a just a little thing I saw pictures of because she was slaughter bound on a Washington feedlot. A friend offered her a place to stay and I had her brought down to So Cal. She had the worst luck, not only being on a feedlot... but she was sent in the wrong direction by the feedlot owner, and had to be hauled back, she was not tame enough to have coggins pulled right away, but she has turned out to be worth every moment of worry. She is a fearless, loving, mischievous imp!

I can see Dyna as a child's mount, or a therapeutic riding horse at a very young age. She loves people and seems to have no fear. Face hugging fly masks.. she demanded to have one too! Leave a drink setting around while the farrier is over and she will open it and try to drink it! Those grumpy old mares need to beware.. she will buzz by and bump them until they chase her. She is a smile inducer who can find a million ways to make you laugh at her antics.

Winsome Rose ~ 2001 Chestnut Curly mare

Rose was spotted at the Valentine adoption in 2007. Her HMA was considered too rough for horses, so all the horses had been gathered. She was 6, freshly gathered. I looked into her eyes and she looked so far away and sad.. forlorn, my heart ached for her. She was very unconfident even with other horses. When Freedom the Extreme Mustang Makeover horse arrived a few months later he befriended her and helped her feel comfortable to join the herd. She has gained much confidence over the last year. She is a beautiful mare with nice gaits who will someday be a very nice ride.

I'll let my daughter fill you in on her Quarter mares, and her 28 y/o not completely retired Appy.

GENDER OF HORSE: Mare

I am mom to 3 humans and too many animals. I've loved animals all my life, I took my first steps clinging to the collar of the family boxer. I had dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and a parakeet growing up, but had to wait until I was 21 to get my own horse.
While I could not have a pony/horse growing up my mother did her best to make sure I got to spend time with horses. She drove me to a summer horse camp and twice weekly to a riding club run by a very kind lady named Pam Miller. We spent as much time learning about horses and horse care as we did riding. In High School I took an ROP course in Horse Care at Pepperdine University where we spent MORE time learning then we did riding.
Some wonderful things happened because of this.. I knew a lot about horse care before I got a horse of my own, and I learned that just hanging out with horses was as much fun as riding them.
My favorite breeds were foundation type Quarter Horses and Appaloosas, but in 2002 I met a mustang filly who captured my heart... and changed my life. :D
