HISTORY OF YOUR HORSE:
I ACCQUIRED LUCY THIS PAST MAY. I HAD SEEN HER AT THE MAHONING VALLEY PONY BREEDERS AUCTION. I WASN'T LOOKING TO BUY, SHE WAS AMAZING IN THE RING WALK, TROT CANTER. A YOUNG BOY ALSO RODE HER BARE BACK. I WAS IMPRESSED. SHE ENDED UP BEING A NO SALE, SO I TALKED TO THE OWNER AND GOT HER NUMBER. AFTER CONVINCING MY HUBBY WE NEEDED HER I CALLED THE OWNER AND WE WENT AND LOOKED. HUBBY LIKED, SET A TIME TO RIDE HER THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND. WENT TO THE HOUSE, AND NO ANSWER. WAS A LITTLE UPSET THAT SHE WOULDN'T BE HOME (IT WAS A 30 MINUTE DRIVE). GOT A PHONE CALL A FEW HOURS LATER FROM HER DAUGHTER, SHE HAD PASSED AWAY THE DAY BEFORE.SHE WAS A WONDERFUL LADY AND MADE US FEEL SO WELCOME WHILE WE WERE LOOKING AT LUCY. THE HORSE WORK IS MISSING A GREAT LADY. WE BROUGHT LUCY HOME A MONTH LATER, AND SHE'S JUST AMAZING. I'M GLAD THAT WE BOUGHT HER, AND GLAD THAT I GOT TO MEET HER PREVIOUS OWNER GAYLE.
I HAVE ONLY HAD A HORSE FOR 2 YEARS NOW. IT'S THE BEST TING I'VE EVER DONE. STILL NOT GREAT AT RIDING BUT GETTING THERE. GOT REALLY INTERESTED IN HORSES WHEN MY OLDEST DAUGHTER AT THE AGE OF 4 HAD A STROKE, AND HAD HIPPOTHERAPY. THE HORSES WERE AMAZING!!!! GENTLE, AND MADE HER BORING OLD THERAPY FUN. THEY BROUGHT HER A LONG WAY!!!!!
Can you believe summer is almost over and trail riding will be coming to an end? I am looking for pictures of your rides, stories and or other fun things you did this summer.

Hello, how are you doing? Hope you are recovered from your surgery. You told me to let you know how the saddle worked out. Well, it was on back order for over 5 weeks, then I had to send it back to Big Horn because the stitching was not complete on the corner of the seat(and a few other flaws). I finally got it back and actually got to use it! It fits Mouse great!!!! I think with Haflingers you will have to use a breast collar and maybe stop on the trail and readjust the saddle, but this saddle fits. I can stand on one stirrup with all my weight and that saddle will not move. Actually took Mouse on his first ride off the farm since June. He was fired up and jumpy, but not all that bad. Took him out again today and he was very good. He was afraid of a couple things and shied a little, but it's all a new neighborhood for him. We have that benefit ride this Sunday so I hope he will do ok. My neice is going to ride Ellwood. Her friend has to work so she doesn't have anybody to haul her horse and it is too far for me to go get him and get back for the ride. So, she will just drive over herself and ride the Weed.
I am sorry to hear about your health problems. You have to heal up, riding season is just starting! My shoulder is getting better, not all the way, but pretty good. Mouse's summer vacation is about to end. I have been riding Ellood lately and I think my shoulder can handle the Mouse now. I had figured I'd just wait until I got the saddle, but I will just make due with the Abetta I have in the meantime. The time off has helped Mouse settle in. He is not as frantic and worked up as he was before.
Hey, how are you doing? Have that surgery? Hope all went well. The horse show was this past weekend? If yes, how did it go? I got the Haflinger saddle, it looks like it fits him. There were some flaws I didn't spot 'til I got it home. Had to send it back to Big Horn to fix. So, I haven't gotten to even use it yet. Hey, I was on Craig's List and spotted a draft saddle for sale in OH. I thik it was in the Colombus or Cleveland area. The ad says it is new and she's asking $300 for it.
I hope it isn't serious. I had my gall bladder out last October--best thing I ever did and I healed up quick, too. I am still having some trouble with my shoulder, so I haven't been riding for the last month. It is getting better and I have started riding Ellwood again. The Mouse is a little more of a challenge at this point, so I am giving my shoulder some more time before I really start working him again. Soon as I really give that saddle a good try out I will give you a report. It is very wide, I think it is 7.5 inches at the gullet. I haven't found a model number on it. It looks just like the "Dodgeville" model on one of the websites except it has a little metal ring for the back cinch instead of a nylon reinforced slot.
Yes, we went up on Monday last week. The saddle had not come in. There was an Abetta saddle on consignment sale at the Lonely Pine Harness shop. I called the seller's number to make an offer on it, she didn't return my call until Friday. I went back up on Saturday(I had planned to take it as a one day vacation anyhow)and picked up the Abetta. The Big Horn Haflinger saddle I ordered is on back order. I tried the Abetta, it is extra wide and has a flex tree. It works on Ellwood the Morgan and it seems to work on Mouse the Haflinger ok, too. I was able to stand all my weight in one stirrup without it rolling off the side. Now I only tried it on Mouse in the arena. I think it would roll to the side if it slid back even the slightest. A friend of mine lent me a Professional's Choice no slip pad that you put on the horse's withers under the saddle pad and it is supposed to keep the saddle from slipping. I am willing to give it a try. I was just going to resell this Abetta if it didn't work on Mouse, but since it works on the Weed I think I will just keep it. How did the horse show go?
He's doing okay, just needs ridden. We have had him around the farm ok. We went to a judged pleasure trail ride last week and he was a bit freaked out by the obstacles. On the trail he was great, the trails were an absolute muddy mess, he did fine. The problem came when he lost sight of Melissa's grey mare and wouldn't stand still and he started to do tight circles and the saddle turned sideways and Carole (my friend was on him)came off. She didn't land hard, but he stepped on her leg. Fortunately, he didn't break it. She got one awful hematoma and is still pretty sore. She was using an Orthoflex Officer's Stitchdown saddle. Well, needles to say THAT one didn't work. I have two full quarterhorse bar saddles and they roll on him. A friend of mine has another wide tree saddle I still have yet to try.
How's it going with the haflinger? Mouse is doing better but I am still having problems with his herdboundness. Saddle fit is giving me fits. Does your saddle turn on Lucy? My neice works at a camp and they have a very drafty haflinger on their hack string, she says they use a draft horse saddle on him and it never turns. I really don't want to buy another saddle. I have 3 that kinda fit, but they still turn/roll.
