I just bought an english hackamore for my mare today, but I've found that my bridle cheek straps are much too long for it.  Either that, or it's supposed to be that low...

Where is the hackmore supposed to sit?  About where should it be on the horse's face?

I'm not sure which english hackamore you have (leather sidepull or shank), but they do sit a little lower than a noseband, but not much.  Above is a link to a picture of a hackamore at the correct position.  You may have to punch holes in your bridle to achieve the correct fit.

Good luck!
