My mare was bred June 23, 24, 25 of 07. I thought she was due 2 weeks ago but still nothing. She looks to be in foal and her udder is slowly filling out but we didn't think she bred in July though she was still in with the stud until the first of August. is it normal for them to be overdue by this much? A vet is coming out next week to check her as we moved her last weekend to a new barn. Could this have caused the delay? She seems perfectly content and not ill looking in the least. Her behavior is good, still eating and active just no foal. Should I be more worried than I am? This isn't her first foal. Her last one is two now and she had no trouble with her and also didn't show until she had it. Thanks...

A lot of horses can go a month over their due date chick,so it may not be much to worry about.  The best thing if your so worried is to get your vet out.  Is the foal still active?  Has she waxed? Dont panick yet, let your vet have a look.  Moving barn is stressfull so it could be possible that she wants to be more secure with her surroundings before she allows the foal to enter the big bad world too.  Let us know what happens!!  And good luck with the new baby!

GRRR.... Okay all... the vet came out and checked the old girl ut. She bagged up, leaked, got fat. Vet looks at her says should be anytime, I'll palpate anyway. Guess what! No foal. At all. No stretching, no sign of there ever being one. Great. Oh well. Less to worry about I guess and now she's back to work and cutting that feed back to normal. Vet was a little perplexed but thought she had bagged and leaked coming into heat. Doll always comes into a "silent" heat. You never can really tell unless you have a stud practically on her. Well, lo and behold we have a gelding in our barn she's fell in love with. All he has to do is walk through and all four mares in my end of the barn are in heat. Makes for great juggling in the aisle. Live and learn I guess. We won't be breeding her again. She's got some years left on her yet and we'll invest in something later when she really retires. Chao...

yeh just like Sharonnherd said if you are that worried then you should get a vet to check her out. me and my parents run a breeding farm and we have seen lots of these cases. we acually have a foal almost 3 months over due and when she did foal her baby was very heathy and very well built. that foal now is jumping almost 4 feet with his new owner. also i find some breeds of horses hold their babys in them longer then sum other breeds. like our appaloosa's tend to over over their due date comparded to our thourbreds.

but if you are ready get a vet to check her out that way you know what the professinal thinks but try not to worry that much she should be ok
