I can't afford riding lessons right now, I just want to be close to them again. I'm very good at grooming.

Im sorry, I am completely across the country, however I will suggest you stop in to some local barns. Talk to the barn manager and let them know you'd like to help out.
Also, see if there are any therapeutic riding centers around. I have yet to hear of them turning down help.
