Does anyone else hunt with their horses? By that I mean, pack into the wilderness, set up camp, and ride into the sunset looking for ... whatever the game du jour is?

My husband takes out my horses and they come back so fit and healthy. They are so non-spooky afterward, like they've seen it all.

Anyone have any good hunting ideas to send with my husband? I don't personally hunt and don't go when he goes, but am curious what other wives experiences have been with husband's taking their horses.

Had a gelded Morgan/Clydesdale cross I could shoot off of. We could get real close to deer before they got spooked. Used a .357 lever-action Marlin, very loud gun. When I would aim, Brute just lowered his head and braced for the noise. Carried out two big Vermont bucks at the same time, though I had to walk. Not for too much weight but lack of room. I miss that guy. He had such a long stride that even his trot was smooth. His dam and uncle (Clydesdales) could pull some logs! Did real well on sap sleds and stoneboats too. Probably, only Yankees would know what those were. Brute and I used to pull powerline cables through the trees before they were raised. He had an easier time on the hills than the bigger horses.
