I would like to see some discussion on daily preventive worming for horses.  I have read several articles on the pros and cons, but would like to hear from some people who have used them and what their experiences have been.  Thanks.

My trainer's Morgan is on Strongid due to his tendency to colic.  Our vet recommended this, although I, too, have heard good and bad stories.  He does very well on it, so I guess it depends on the horse/circumstances.

This is my 'personal' opinion, due to the fact that worms build an immunity to wormers very quickly, I wouldnt use a daily wormer. Also, the least amount of chemicals that i can put into my horse..the better.  I worm every 8 weeks and rotate my wormers so as immunity cannot be built.  It may say the worms cannot build imminuty to daily wormers but that is what was origonally thought about normal wormers in the past and found to be wrong, so, I wont use them.

I used a daily wormer years ago. My horses did fine on it. At onetime the vets use to say if you were on their program using it and if your horse was to colic you wouldnt have to pay for the surgery. I dont know if they do that anymore.

Any update on your worming issue?  Just interested to know what direction you went.

Thanks

Eric
