Do you mind if I am a bit of a bore.... when it comes to breeding from our mares, unless she is registered then dont do it cos there are far too many horses in this world now that dont get sold, homes, are neglected, etc, (I am definately not saying you are one...just read on) and no-one knows whats round the corner should you have to sell, its such a hasstle to find homes for two.  I have swore to myself now that I  will never breed from a young mare again, when a mare of mine retires then yes breed a foal to keep a little something of my girl when i lose her, but do think carefully, they are expensive, time consuming and there are far too many now and thats why we have soooo many problems with slaughter and rescue centres being full already...but thats only my opinion, Im all for Not Breeding for the fact of a foal is cute!

The thing is I totally agree with not breeding just to breed. And I do not intend to breed her until she's older and retired-IF I breed her at all. I would never breed her unless she turns out to be an extrodinary riding horse. She's far from finished at this point. She went through a bucking thing last year and we found out it was saddle fit. Now that we have her in a well-fitted saddle we can continue with her saddle training. It's amazing how long it took her to forget that a saddle hurt. Now that she's been wearing the new one and knows it's not causing her pain there have been a HUGE difference. We started some basic saddle work last fall and she is really amazing! My reining trainer loves her. :D So, we'll see.

She's a darling... My first pony was black so I have a big soft spot for them.  My second was a black Trakehner mare who was as mad as a meat-axe (but i loved her anyway).  I could be wrong but I don't see any arab in her either.  Morgan/quarter horse...If you were in Australia I'd say a little bit of Fresian too.

If you are going to breed ask yourself the hard questions before that time comes (the emotional ones and the financial ones) and understand that there are a lot of horses out there looking for homes (and a lot end up where no horse should...).  As I rescue a lot of unwanted horses here in this country I see the sad end of the breeding tale and it can be so heartbreaking.

I'm not telling you how to suck eggs... just be mindful :-)

I think she's a beautiful girl and the fact that you are even asking these questions means you will give her such a good home :-)

I understand that there are lots of good horses out their looking for homes. I fully intend to fill my stables with rescues someday.

I would only breed her if she was an unmatched riding horse. She has all the makings of one too. You just can't tell until they are finished. We'll see... You get so attached to the smart, affectionate ones.  Maybe I'm just blinded.

Here's an updated picture if anyone wants to see it.

Wow. She looks a lot like my mare, who is morgan/appaloosa. They could be sisters. She's cute. Her hindquarters are just like my Ming's.
