My favorite breed to see in dressage is the friesian. They are so beautiful and elegant. If anyone has any connections to this breed I want one really bad. My favorites are the baroque style friesians and I love geldings and stallions. I have been studying this breed and they do really well in dressage. But friesians are a rarer breed and arnt cheap. All that i have looked at have not been less than around 10 thousand and I'm still looking but if you can help me than please do I would be very thankful.

Friesians are by far not the "ideal" dressage horse. I worked in a dressage barn and those horses can really mess your arms up. They are very heavy in the forehand! Which is NOT what you want in a dressage mount. We had 2 first level dressage friesians a gelding and a mare. The gelding was the newer sport style friesian and the mare was the old style baroque. The trainer/owner of the barn would come out of the arena with those two and she'd be in PAIN.
One horse that actually does well in the dressage ring and does well with ease is a percheron/TB cross. They look very similar to a friesian and are A LOT cheaper. We had 2 of them in our barn and they were WAY better for dressage. I'm not saying friesians can't do dressage I'm just saying they were bred to DRIVE not do ballet.
I'm just saying don't get stuck on friesians looks. They really don't have that GREAT of personalities either-in my opinion. I would visit a few before investing in one.

Well if I were you I probaly look in the riding magazines for classifieds. Sorry I dont Know of any right now that are cheap and for sale but if you look up friesians on dreamhorse.com, equine.com, or you could just google or yahoo friesians for sale, oh and warmbloodsforsale.com has alot of links to dressage barns so you might find something there. friesians can be very good dressage horses but you do not get to see alot of them in grand prix, but the ones who do make it to this level perform breathtaking dressage test. So if your looking for a friesian dressage horse I think you should bring a dressage trainer with you who is very honest and will tell you if the horse can do the dressage levels you want to do. I agree friesians are very beautiful and elegant :)

I also heard that they are brutal on the arms. I think it's because they are so strong in the front end, that you have to lift weights to hold them.
But at the same time, if you can hold them, they are beautiful horses. Some have their moments, but some are a dream to work with. |

The statement about friesians not having GREAT personalities is way off... compared to my thoroughbred,my friesian is docile,gentle,and just all around loving.The only thing i have noticed is that he can get very jealous when i am grooming or paying any attention to my thoroughbred.Every horse has its own personality but i can honestly say that,as a breed, friesians are more friendly and loyal the most other breeds that i have seen so far.If you ever get the chance to find on in your price range,go see it in person and spend the day with the horse.Do everything that you would normally do at your barn like grooming,tacking,or just plain hand walk.you will see that friesians quickly bond with their owners and are very gentle horses...PLus there beauty is just unmatched.
