PHOENIX – March 13, 2008 — Fleas have been around for millions of years. They feed on blood and love to live on pets. A cat’s furry exterior is an ideal living place for fleas making them difficult to detect. Fleas not only suck blood from pets which can lead to anemia, but fleas can also transmit diseases that can be very serious or even fatal. Fleas are not the only pests that can pose a risk to pets’ health. Ticks can transmit disease-causing organisms not only to pets, but to humans as well, infecting them with illnesses such as Lyme disease. Mosquitoes are also potential sources of illness due to their biting and can transmit heartworm larvae to cats.

Bio Spot® introduces a new weapon in the arsenal to rid pets and homes of fleas and ticks – the popular Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Cats five pounds and over now comes in a convenient six-month supply to last all flea season long or provide a better value for multi-cat households.

“Breaking the flea life cycle is vital to effectively eliminating fleas,” said Tobi Hall, senior brand manager, Central Life Sciences, Bio Spot® Products. “The insect growth regulator (IGR) contained in many of the Bio Spot® flea and tick control products is a key step in the process.”

Bio Spot® Spot On® Flea & Tick Control for Cats contains two active ingredients: Etofenprox, a fast-acting adulticide, and (S)-Methoprene, an insect growth regulator (IGR). Each of six monthly treatments kills fleas, flea eggs and deer ticks for up to one month. It also kills and repels mosquitoes that may transmit heartworm disease. The IGR prevents flea eggs from maturing into breeding, biting adults. With both an adulticide and an IGR, the pet receives the best treatment, regardless of the flea stage.

Each pink tube is a distinctive water-drop shape with a long tip for easy application on long haired cats. In addition, the tubes are clearly stamped in raised lettering with the word “Cat” to allow easier identification. A “fifth panel” on the package presents an easy-to-follow application guide on one side, showing exactly how to apply the product to your cat. A treatment schedule on the other side helps keep track of when the cat was last treated, and when the next treatment should be applied for continuous protection.

“Many consumers are not aware that over-the-counter flea and tick products, such as Bio Spot®, go through the same stringent EPA testing as the pesticide products they receive from their veterinarians,” said Hall. “Now, pet owners can choose over-the-counter products that do the same job as the topicals purchased through veterinarians at about one-third the price.”

Additional products for cats in the Bio Spot® line include:
* Bio Spot® Shampoo for Cats & Kittens — Kills fleas, ticks and lice on contact. PRECOR® IGR kills flea eggs for 28 days, controlling pre-adult fleas before they become breeding, biting adults. Also contains soothing aloe, lanolin and oatmeal to leave the coat soft, shining and manageable.
* Bio Spot® Flea & Tick Spray for Cats & Kittens — Kills and repels fleas, ticks (including those that carry Lyme disease) and mosquitoes. PRECOR® IGR kills flea eggs for 28 days effectively breaking the flea life cycle. This spray leaves cats and kittens with a pleasant scent.
* Bio Spot® Flea & Tick Collar for Cats & Kittens — Provides continuous, long-lasting protection, killing fleas and ticks (including those carrying Lyme disease) for up to five months even when wet.

“It is important to read product labels carefully and follow the directions exactly,” added Hall. “Remember, never use products intended only for dogs on cats.”
