Professional's Choice Sports Medicine Products, Inc. has announced that as of April 1st, 2004 they will be moving their main facility from its present Spring Valley, CA location to a new one just a few miles north in neighboring El Cajon, CA.

 All business, shipping and production will be suspended from Thursday, April 1st through Monday, April 5th.  Customer Service is expected to be available on April 5th.  All operations will return to normal on Monday, April 12th.

Having outgrown their current 20'000 sq. ft. warehouse, they're moving into a fabulous new facility within a 150,000 square foot building.  After over 14 years they will at last have all operations under one roof; manufacturing, production, warehousing and administration.  This is expected to increase efficiency and put Professional's Choice at the top for customer service.  Their ultimate goal is to have a 48-hour turnaround on all domestic and international orders shipped from this facility.

It all happens at the 2007 Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show, held in conjunction with the NRHA Futurity, November 22 – December 1, at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK.

It’s been years since horse lovers have been able to soak up advice from the master. Avila, along with fellow world champion trainer Al Dunning, is ready to share his secrets with the rest of the equine universe.

Avila, and his “talented, gritty, physical” horse Light N Fine, won what Avila calls “the Ironman of all horse competitions” during the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s annual World's Greatest Horseman competition in Stephenville, Texas. “Personally, this is probably the most gratifying title to win,” Avila said. “You’re out there with all your peers, and it’s a grueling competition because you have to be good at every event.” Those events include herd work, rein work, steer stopping and cow work.

Avila has earned nearly 40 world champion and reserve titles during his $1.5 million career, and for the past 20 years Professional’s Choice has been there every step of the way. Championships in Grand Prix Dressage and Show Jumping will be settled over the weekend at the Thomas and Mack Center, and Professional’s Choice product endorsers Steffan Peters and Catherine Haddad, both Americans, plan to be in the Dressage title mix.

Another Professional’s Choice endorser, Danish Olympic Team Coach Rudolf Zeilinger, will watch as his trainee, and crowd favorite, Andreas Helgstrand competes for a World Cup title. The dressage warm-up, set for April 18 at 1:30 p.m. Las Vegas time, will be a good opportunity to see Professional’s Choice products in action. The dressage World Cup Finals championship round is scheduled for April 21 at 7 p.m.

Haddad, 43, and Peters, 42, comprise half of the American Dressage contingent. Haddad will be aboard Maximus JSS and Peters will ride Floriano.

Peters was the highest scoring rider for the bronze-medal winning U.S. team at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. When speaking of his prized horse, Peters said, “If Floriano is a little keyed up he can lose his balance. I have to sit really extremely light, not really think about touching him.”

Born in Germany, Peters became a U.S. citizen in 1992 and lives and trains in San Diego with his wife Shannon, who is also an accomplished dressage competitor and PC endorser.

Haddad lives and trains in Vechta, Germany, and, like Helgstrand, she trains with Zeilinger. After training and competing with the U.S. Team last summer, Haddad was named a reserve rider for the World Equestrian Games. She also is an active breeder of Oldenburg and Hannoverian horses; in February 2005, she received the prestigious Silver Pin Award for breeding achievement from the Oldenburger Zuchtverband in Germany.

Zeilinger, one of the most talented pupils of the late Willi Schultheis, is a trainer of Olympic and world champion horses including Michelle Gibson’s famous Atlanta Games mount Peron.  Michelle was the first American in history to brush an individual Olympic Bronze Medal.  Zeilinger is well-known for the gentle and sensitive way he trains dressage horses, encouraging them to develop a relaxed, confident and athletic way of moving, combined with a happy forward-thinking attitude to their work.

Zeilinger’s protégé, Helgstrand, the pride of Denmark, will ride Blue Hors Matine at the World Cup.

Kansas State University Study Puts Professional's Choice SMx Air Ride™ Pads On Top

The results of KSU’s year long study were finally published allowing Professional's Choice to promote what they knew all along – that the SMx Air Ride™ Saddle pad was the best on the market!

Professional's Choice, well know for scientifically testing its products, had already put the SMx Air Ride™ Saddle Pad through an exhausting study and series of tests using the Force Sensing Array (FSA) system and in rigorous field trials before its release in January of 2004. The results were even better than expected and showed positively that the SMx Air Ride Saddle Pad was beneficial for the horse.

The new study by KSU evaluated six leading saddle pads from various makers over the course of a year for properties such as compression resistance, pressure distribution and wicking. It was conducted by Erica D. Wesley, MS with oversight by Dr. Elizabeth McCullough, PhD Kansas State University Institute for Environmental Research. Again, the results were very favorable for Professional's Choice and the SMx Air Ride Saddle Pad, while some of the other makers suffered some disappointing results.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of western equine saddle pads before and after extended use. The pads were tested new, then were used for several months and re-evaluated for the same properties after use. The FSA system containing 256 sensors was used to evaluate the pressure distribution under the pads and average level of peak pressures exerted during riding. Dead weight testing and heat and moisture evaporation tests were also used. Saddle pads with high peak pressures can be potentially harmful to the horse and those with poor wicking capabilities can lead to overheating.

The study came to the following conclusions about Professional's Choice pads:

“The SMx Air Ride™ displayed superior performance with the lowest peak pressures and standard deviation. Additionally, this pad exhibited superior wicking properties both before and after use.” Finally, the Wrangler® SMx Air Ride™ , which showed the most improvement in pressure testing from before - to after use, and along with the SMx Air Ride™, exhibited the best performance in peak pressure elimination and pressure distribution after use. Both the SMx Air Ride™ and the Wrangler® pads use the same core material. The SMx Air Ride™ maintained the highest wicking rate of all pads.”

Professional’s Choice product endorser Steffan Peters and Floriano received a standing ovation during the victory walk after winning third place in the Rolex FEI World Cup Dressage Grand Prix Freestyle Final.

An eager crowd was completely thrilled by Peters’ and Floriano’s high energy performance to a classic rock mix that included Fleetwood Mac and John Lennon. An amazing performance inspired by familiar and well loved music endeared the pair to the crowd and was rewarded with the warmest reception of the evening.

Professional’s Choice congratulates their endorser Bob Avila on his win of the Magnificent 7 title at the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento California on June 8th. This is the second year in a row for Bob.

Last year Bob won the Magnificent 7 aboard Light N Fine and took second on Brother White, the first time in history for one rider to take first and second place in this event. This year it was Brother White’s turn to win. Bob and Brother White not only won the title, but took it with the greatest lead out of the top ten riders. In a usually very tight competition, their combined score of 592.5 was 11 points higher than second place. Bob’s other mount for the event, Chics Magic Potion, also placed in the top seven at number six.

The Magnificent 7 puts stock horse and rider teams to the test in four events that require exceptional dexterity and versatility. This year there were no elimination rounds and all four go-round events were held in the same day. The herd work and steer stopping go-rounds were held in the morning, while the final two events, reined work, and cow work down the fence were held in the evening making it an action packed day for the excited crowds.

Bob and Brother White came away from the morning events in the lead and went into the evening to a sold out house. The team aced the rest, tying for first in the reining go-round and winning the fence work go-round, making it all look easy to the energized crowd.

But, Bob was not only there to compete in the Magnificent 7. During intermission on Friday and twice daily on Saturday and Sunday, Bob and world champion trainer Al Dunning gave their sought after horse clinics. What a bonus it was for eager attendees to have two of the greatest horse trainers of all time willing to give them their attention and the fruits of their combined wisdom and knowledge.

More than 2,000 horses found sanctuary at the Del Mar County Fairgrounds last week, including those belonging to Professional’s Choice Sports Medicine Products President/ CEO, Dal Scott and Marketing Director, Kelly McGinnis. Over half a million San Diego County residents were under voluntary and mandatory evacuation from their endangered homes. The speed and intensity of the raging fires left little time to collect supplies. With so many people and horses in need, Professional’s Choice was compelled to lend a helping hand. The donation of Professional’s Choice halters, lead ropes, hay bags, gloves, hats, back supports and knee supports were well received by both volunteers and evacuees residing at the Del Mar County Fairgrounds and the makeshift Weld Horse Camp in El Cajon.

Fortunately there are no major fatalities to report in regards to the homes and lives of the Professional’s Choice team. Officials are hoping for 100% containment in the very near future.

Colorado Springs, CO - September 7, 2006 – The Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA), one of the oldest, organized women’s professional sports organizations in the country today rejects yesterday’s statement released by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) as business as usual for the Colorado Springs based organization.

“This organization, since being taken over by Commissioner Troy Ellerman, has been relentless in their pursuit of control with no regard to the negative impact it has on the industry, and the Women’s association is just another obstacle in the road” said Leon Vick, former Director for the PRCA. “It’s simple; you either get in line or get out of the way.” This statement resounds throughout the industry as the PRCA has seen an exodus from within the organization either from resignations or terminations.

The PRCA continues it “no holds barred” practices of imposing its will and then spinning the information with some its most recent decisions. The same day the PRCA took an aggressive stance against the WPRA, it also dismissed the voice of its own members by passing a Circuit Points system which had recently been voted down 11 to none by PRCA Circuit Presidents. In addition, the PRCA Board ignored the nearly eight hundred proxy votes signed by its own members asking for a restructuring of the PRCA Board of Directors. Current PRCA All Around Cowboy, Trevor Brazille said “It worries me that we can go through the right steps to change rodeo in the right direction, and it can be shot down by the very Board we are trying to change.”

The information released by the PRCA in regard to the WPRA is another attempt to distort the facts in order to justify the actions of Commissioner Ellerman and a majority of his Board. When asked to comment on the financial numbers put out by the PRCA, former Director of Rodeo Administration and 16 year employee of the PRCA, Jim Nichols said, “I have been running the numbers for years and those numbers do not add up. The Wrangler National Finals money of $964,000 is generated and paid for through ticket sales and the added money at the twelve circuit finals rodeos comes from the rodeo committees, PRCA and WPRA members and sponsors.” He continued by adding, “the PRCA has sold rodeo as a package which included the assets of the WPRA. I am sure that Wrangler, Dodge, Coors and other sponsors have bought sponsorships with that understanding. In my opinion if this was really about money the PRCA would have tried to negotiate.”

The assertion by the PRCA that its attempts to negotiate were met with resistance is discredited by the facts. “This is patently false” said Jymmy Kay Davis, president of the WPRA. “We had been in constant communication with PRCA but could never get a clarification on the issue or any reliable documentation to substantiate their claims.”

“President Davis offered numerous times to establish talks between the two organizations,” confirmed Leon Vick. The PRCA went on to say that they had been anticipating a formal proposal from the WPRA. “The request for the WPRA to offer a proposed solution to an undefined conflict is absurd. It is Business 101. You can’t be the buyer and seller. Therefore we could not even begin to resolve the issue and it is now obvious that they did not want us to” said Mrs. Davis.

The evidence for control emanates from the actions taken by the PRCA. “Their new barrel racing association, in order to maintain its ability to limit it membership to only women, will have to be a separate entity of the PRCA which is exactly what we have now. The only difference is they can hand pick the board and ensure its reign over women barrel racers” said Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Davis goes on to respond to Mr. Ellerman’s comment about providing equal and fair treatment to the barrel racers, “The WPRA has been protecting the rights of its women athletes for the past 60 years and I am deeply offended that this men’s organization thinks they now could do a better job than we have been doing, especially when the PRCA itself has been struggling with protecting the rights of its own members.”

The WPRA continues to urge for your support and challenges all to look to actions of the PRCA for the true motives and not the rhetoric it is putting out in attempt to distract from their real objective: Control.

We have gotten word that Darci has passed away. Darci was a great barrel racer and will be missed alot. Darci was kicked in the head by a horse on August 31st. Darci had to be life flighted to Iowa City, Iowa to under go surgery. Our prayers are with Darci's family and friends. I have gotten word from Heidi that there are 2 NBHA districts cancelled so everyone can honor Darcie on Saturday. Following is an email received from Heidi.

There are plans in the works to have a silent auction during the Memorial/Benefit Show on October 21st and District 5 members are still working out the finalized details . I thought it would be nice if all of us could start working on getting donated items to help district 5 get rolling on this. They have a lot to deal with right now, and they really came to our aid (along with the other districts) when Michelle was killed. We had tons of items donated from them (and help) and we were able to raise quite a bit of money for Michelle's family fairly quickly. Kelly Hahn (District 5) is organizing the Silent Auctions and if everyone would want to start working on getting donations I would be willing to collect, record, and deliver to Kelly. I plan on attending what ever memorials that they will have for Darcie and I encourage each of you to make plans to attend as well if possible. (I always have a stall or two open for anyone that wants to hitch a ride!)

If anyone would want to contribute money to District 5's memorials/benefits for Darcie and her family I have posted Kelly Hahn's address below and those items can be sent to Kelly directly. Please help them out if you can, they helped us out when we needed them, now it is time to return the favor.

Colorado Springs, CO - September 19, 2006 – The Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA), one of the oldest, organized women’s professional sports organizations in the country announced today it has filed for a Preliminary Injunction with respect to the creation of a competing barrel racing subsidiary by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Inc. (PRCA).

The complaint was filed in Federal District Court in Denver and alleges that the PRCA violated federal antitrust law and Colorado state law in connection with the formation of its barrel racing subsidiary.

On August 17, 2006, the WPRA received a surprise letter from the PRCA, stating it was creating a women’s professional barrel racing association as a subsidiary to the PRCA. In effect, the PRCA created this subsidiary to steal WPRA members and put the only independent professional women’s rodeo association in America out of business.

The WPRA immediately requested clarification from the PRCA of the rules for this new subsidiary. To date, the PRCA has not responded directly to the WPRA. To show good faith, the WPRA Board sent a letter to the PRCA on August 22, offering a condition of status quo for the 2007 season and the formation of a committee comprised of three Board members of each Association to reach a long-term solution. This suggestion of compromise was also rejected by the PRCA.

"This is all about a men’s organization trying to take the power, control and money away from a women’s organization." said Jymmy Kay Davis, President of the WPRA. "For almost sixty years, we have been protecting the rights of women barrel racers. Now that the WPRA has more than two thousand members and sanctions more than six hundred barrel races a year, representing total pay-offs of more than $5 million – the PRCA wants to take over women’s professional barrel racing. I find it ridiculous that a cowboys' association run by men, think that they can do a better job than the WPRA of promoting and protecting our women athletes.”

About the WPRA
The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association is one of the oldest, organized women’s professional sports organizations in the country. Founded in 1948 in San Angelo, Texas by a group of thirty-eight ladies, the primary purpose of the original Girls Rodeo Association was to give women legitimate, honest opportunities to compete in rodeo events.

In its inaugural year the GRA had seventy-four members and held sixty events across the country.
The GRA changed its name to the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association in 1981. Its purpose remained the same: to protect and promote women in professional rodeo competition.. Throughout its history, the WPRA and its members have fought for equal rights within the rodeo world. Today, the WPRA has more than two thousand members and sanctions more than six hundred barrel races a year, representing total pay-offs of more than $5 million.
