Bevo's 1st week in Training
Posted On 04/07/2008 00:18:41

I brought Bevo to the "Big City" last weekend. He has spent the last 2 years out in the pasture with Beamer just being a horse so this is a big shock to him. He will be 3 on June 13 so  it is time for him to get a JOB! I am really excited about having him here and I can’t wait to ride him. I am not sure what I am going to do with him yet. I would really like do Reining. I have done the Dressage thing and it is somewhat similar.....Kinda : )  He is bred for Cutting but I have never done it myself so it will be an adventure for sure. We will just have to see what we are capable of. I really have not ridden much since I got pregnant with Emma and that was over 2 years ago. I know that it will take a while to get back in the groove, but I am so excited to finally have a horse around again.

Friday- We pulled up at the barn just as a Play Day was getting started. I was pretty nervous about how he would react to all of the excitement. He was really worried about all of the noise and did not want to go into the small door to the barn. I tried to walk him around to the arena which leads into the barn from the other side. He freaked out and got away from me, which was not only dangerous, but EXTREMELY embarassing!!  We caught him in a corner and I let Jenny, the trainer, walk him to the barn. He still did not want to cooperate, but she eventually got him in. I went to go check on him around 10 pm and he was still pretty nervous because the Play Day was still going and they are pretty loud. I stayed with him for a while and just groomed him and he calmed down.

Saturday - There was a show in the arena so I was planning on just hanging out with him in the stall and grooming him. I just walked him up and down the barn aisle a few times since he was so stocked up from being in the stall.

Sunday - The plan was to take him out to the round pen and let him hang out for a while. Apparently he wasnt a fan of that idea. He didn’t want to leave the barn so I just worked him in the aisle and put him up. I figured that since I was paying someone to train him, I was not going to add a new problem. This is something that she can fix..... :(

Monday - Bevo’s 1st session! He was very attentive but very disrespectful to personal space. That is definately something that needs to be worked on. She did not work him hard today. She was really just trying to feel him out a little and let him start getting used to her.

Tuesday and Wednesday - Still some issues walking down the barn aisle, but he is getting better everyday. My lesson was on Wednesday, so she gave me a few tips on working with him on my own. He is really trying to learn and you can really tell how smart he is. It has been so long since I have really worked with my horses and I can tell how rusty my skills are. My reflexes definately are not as quick as they used to be and I am not as assertive as I need to be.

Thursday - I did not go out to the barn, but she said that it went well.

Friday - Rainy and muddy day. He decided to test her a little today and was not listening at all. She ended on a good note and put him up. She got him back out later in the day to finish.
